In Loving Memory of Robert M. Stevens, A Life of Quiet Strength, Cherished Traditions, and Lasting Love

With deep sorrow and heartfelt remembrance, the Slate Branch Community of Somerset, Kentucky, announces the passing of Robert M. Stevens, who departed this life peacefully at his home on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the age of 58. Surrounded by familiar comforts and cherished memories, Robert left this world with the same quiet grace that marked his life.

Born on March 1, 1967, in Augsburg, Germany, Robert was the beloved son of Everett Stevens and Connie Moore Stevens. His early years were shaped by a love of family, faith, and curiosity—qualities that stayed with him throughout his life. As a proud and devoted member of the Baptist faith, Robert lived by values of kindness, humility, and thoughtfulness, touching the lives of many with his gentle spirit.

Robert was a man of unique interests and joyful passions. He had a collector’s eye—always on the lookout for hidden treasures, from vintage finds to sentimental keepsakes. His love for electronics kept him engaged with new ideas and technologies, and his adventurous side was most alive when traveling the open road in his RV, exploring new places with a sense of wonder and gratitude.

Yet no joy compared to the time he spent with family. Robert held his loved ones close, offering a listening ear, a kind word, or a quiet presence that made others feel at ease. His life was not one of noise or grandeur, but of sincerity, warmth, and enduring connections. He was a son, cousin, nephew, and friend who could always be counted on—and whose absence will be felt deeply in every circle he was a part of.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Everett Stevens, whom he loved and missed dearly.

He leaves behind a loving family who will forever carry his memory in their hearts, including his mother, Connie Stevens, of the Slate Branch Community, as well as many extended family members who meant the world to him:

  • Cousins: Pam Harris (Mike), Debbie Mick, Ann Pittman (Ricky), Vickie Lay, and Larry Taylor (Pam)
  • Aunt: Helen Petrey

Each of them held a special place in Robert’s life, and he in theirs. His memory will live on in their stories, their laughter, and the quiet moments when they remember the man who brought so much meaning to their lives.

A visitation in celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Southern Oaks Funeral Home, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Bro. Zandell Hasty.

Burial will take place at Southern Oaks Cemetery, where Robert will be laid to rest beside the land and community he loved.

Pallbearers honored to serve include:

  • Mike Harris
  • Luke Boyd
  • Robbie Baker
  • Chris Baker
  • Brody Baker
  • Derrick Pittman

The family is grateful to Southern Oaks Funeral Home, who is honored to be entrusted with the care and arrangements for Robert M. Stevens.

Though his time on earth has come to a close, Robert’s legacy of love, loyalty, and simple joys lives on. His gentle soul, steady presence, and heartfelt devotion will be remembered always by those who knew and loved him. May he rest now in eternal peace, reunited with those who have gone before him, and surrounded by the light he so richly deserves.

Would you like a shortened version for a newspaper or a funeral program version? I’d be happy to help with that as well.
