Shooting in Central Peoria Leaves 24-Year-Old Man Hospitalized with Multiple Gunshot Wounds

PEORIA, IL — A peaceful Saturday evening in Central Peoria was shattered by violence as a young man was injured in a late-night shooting, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and renewed concern from residents about ongoing gun violence in the area.

According to a Peoria Police Department spokesperson, officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Sterling Avenue and West Forrest Hill Avenue shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, following reports of gunfire in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers did not find a victim at the scene. However, moments later, they were informed that a 24-year-old male had arrived at a local hospital after being dropped off privately.

Medical staff alerted authorities and began treating the man, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Fortunately, Peoria Police confirmed that the victim’s injuries, while serious, were not considered life-threatening. He remains hospitalized in stable condition, receiving care and expected to recover.

At this time, investigators have not released the name of the victim and are actively working to piece together the events that led to the shooting. It remains unclear where exactly the shooting took place, who was involved, or what the motive might have been. Detectives are urging anyone with information, security camera footage, or tips to come forward to assist with the investigation.

The shooting took place in a busy section of Central Peoria, raising alarm among local residents who have grown increasingly weary of violent incidents near residential areas. Several neighbors reported hearing a series of loud pops followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away.

“This used to be a quiet area,” said one local resident who lives near the intersection. “Now we’re afraid to sit outside or let our kids play after dark. We just want to feel safe again.”

The Peoria Police Department has stepped up patrols in the area and is encouraging community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. As part of ongoing efforts to combat gun violence, the department is also working in partnership with local anti-violence organizations and neighborhood watch groups to increase public safety and rebuild trust in affected communities.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Peoria Police at (309) 673-4521 or submit anonymous tips through Peoria Area Crime Stoppers at (309) 673-9000.

As the investigation continues, the city hopes for justice and healing while the 24-year-old victim begins the road to recovery. The incident serves as another sobering reminder of the urgent need for community-led solutions and sustained efforts to curb gun violence in Central Illinois.
