PEORIA, IL — A peaceful Saturday evening in Central Peoria was shattered by violence as a young man was injured in a late-night shooting, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and renewed concern from residents about ongoing gun violence in the area.
According to a Peoria Police Department spokesperson, officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Sterling Avenue and West Forrest Hill Avenue shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, following reports of gunfire in the neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers did not find a victim at the scene. However, moments later, they were informed that a 24-year-old male had arrived at a local hospital after being dropped off privately.
Medical staff alerted authorities and began treating the man, who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Fortunately, Peoria Police confirmed that the victim’s injuries, while serious, were not considered life-threatening. He remains hospitalized in stable condition, receiving care and expected to recover.
At this time, investigators have not released the name of the victim and are actively working to piece together the events that led to the shooting. It remains unclear where exactly the shooting took place, who was involved, or what the motive might have been.
